Chad A. Rutkowski specializes in intellectual property litigation and litigation counseling. With an extensive background in general commercial litigation, Chad's practice focuses on both contractual disputes involving intellectual property and the protection of intellectual property itself.
Chad has handled litigations involving infringement claims of trademarks, trade dress, and trade secrets. He has handled litigations involving claims of false advertising, and has represented clients in policing and enforcing their copyrights and rights of publicity. Chad has appeared before federal and state trial courts, private domestic and international arbitration panels, and has argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court and lower appellate courts. His experience in handling litigations has led him to develop an expertise in enforcing the indemnification rights of clients, and he currently coordinates indemnity claims for a wireless carrier in a number of large, multi-party patent litigations.
Chad is chair of the firm's New Media Industry Focus Group. He has a special interest in new media and cyberspace issues, and is focused on the ways in which traditional intellectual property protections morph and adapt to address the unique issues posed by the web and other new media outlets. Chad compliments his law practice by acting as the Business Manager for Throwaway Horse LLC, a digital media publisher that created the well-known Ulysses Seen website and iPad app.
Chad is an active member of the Copyright Society of the USA, the Licensing Executive Society, and the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel. Chad has been BV rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system, and has been voted by his peers to be one of Pennsylvania’s “Rising Stars” in the area of intellectual property.
